There have been many films and TV shows about geniuses and the burden and costs of a great mind, but few with a woman’s story at the center. Beth is as messy, mean, and ultimately brilliant as the likes of John Nash (Russell Crowe in “A Beautiful Mind”) or Will Hunting (Matt Damon in “Good Will Hunting”).
Beth Harmon could probably beat them both at chess. The series has been adapted by Scott Frank, who directs and writes all the episodes. And also features an ensemble cast, including Bill Camp, Marielle Heller, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Harry Melling, and many others.
It always had great potential, but The Queen’s Gambit is as close to perfect as it gets
The Crown
Gist

Why it’s worth it?
The Crown during which Elizabeth becomes interesting. In fading into the background a little, she paradoxically becomes more distinct. Qualities like her iron backbone, her clueless sheltered world, and her desire to be good are all things that suddenly seem more human. This is also the first real glimpse of the modern Elizabeth, notably and hopelessly defined by how unmodern she is.
The triumvirate of them — Thatcher’s vision for the future, Diana’s half-purposeful embodiment of the future, and the Queen’s frustration with both of them — makes it not just a good handful of episodes of The Crown but the best complete season the show has ever made & this Netflix drama is sharper than ever as it paints a portrait of an out-of-touch ruler caught off guard by change.
Designated Survivor
Gist
A lower-level United States Cabinet part is unexpectedly named president after a disastrous assault executes everybody above him in the line of progression.
Why it’s worth it?
Designated Survivor was always pitched as Joe Blow becomes president after everyone else in government gets blown up. Tom Kirkman’s (Kiefer Sutherland) everyman persona was a direct response to the real-life clown show that two-party politics has become. so Kirkman was thrust into the Oval Office as an independent — the type of guy who brought reason to the cacophony of screaming from the left and right.
In theory, it’s a pretty good idea for a TV show, Designated Survivor ticked way further left than squarely in the middle, undermining most of the show’s purpose. There have been plenty of American series that have been adapted for international markets. But how easy would it be to replicate a show that revolves around the way the American government works?
That’s the idea here. If you’re one of those people who like watching international remakes of American shows. If you’re not, just watch the Kiefer Sutherland version of Designated Survivor.
Fuller House
Gist
In a continuation of Full House (1987), D.J. Fuller is a mother of three little youngsters and is an ongoing widow. D.J’s. sister Stephanie, her closest companion Kimmy, and Kimmy’s high school little girl all move in to help bring up her children. The house is currently much more full.
Why it’s worth watching:
This is a reboot made with love for the fans of the original and its sights are set on creating a brand new generation of Fuller House lovers. It’s not a comedy about real social issues with a dash of sarcasm or a warped view of reality. It’s harmless and idiotic fun. Should you watch this show? That answer is going to depend on a few things.
If you answer yes to either of these questions then you should give Fuller House a spin. A) Did you watch and enjoy the original Full House? B) Did you watch any other corny live-action children drama as a kid and love to get back into it? Then go and watch this show on Netflix.
Orange Is the New Black
Gist
One of the most exceedingly terrible results of the medication war is that a great deal of truly horrendous individuals bring in cash from it, yet imagine a scenario where there was somebody more relatable. Enter Piper Chapman. She gets offered an entire bundle of money to move much more money to help encourage a medication bargain. That is to say, who wouldn’t consider moving a satchel over the United States for a Kia Sorento? The reason for Orange Is the New Black is that Piper gets busted moving the cash so she needs to go from upper-dry New Yorker.
Why its worth watching?
There is something to be said for “Orange” diving into immigration and emphasizing the very real human cost of the toxic debate raging on today. No other TV show would, or could, do so quite on this level — which is, of course, exactly what has made the series such a landmark achievement.
It leaves behind a television landscape that looks nothing like the one in which it premiered, and the medium as a whole is better off for it. Surprising may be the key description for Orange Is the New Black. It constantly offers more than you expect, and even when it delivers something either predictable or straight from the “women’s prison drama” handbook, it then counters with something fresh or unexpected.
Making a Murderer
Gist
Filmed over 10 years, Steven Avery, a DNA exoneree who, while exposing corruption in local law enforcement, finds himself the prime suspect in a grisly new crime.
Why it’s worth a watching?
Making a Murderer is a gripping courtroom drama, a harsh critique of a flawed and corrupt system, and an angry call to action. Above all, Making a Murderer is the kind of work that has the power to save lives. Take that for a blurb. It is a volatile time in America.
On one side we have unrelenting violence against the blacks, on another, a man was running for president who wants to kick out all the immigrants by literally building barriers. But it’s stories like these that usually go unreported. Stories of ignored, forgotten ‘white trash’ families living in abject poverty, uneducated, and simple.
Errol Morris’ great documentary The Thin Blue Line, about a similar premise, is eclipsed only by the legendary Paradise Lost trilogy, about three Arkansas kids convicted of murdering children just because they listened to Metallica and wore black. Hence on a lighter note, people must see this, and this show too can save many lives.
