Haunt (2019)

Funny Halloween haunted house movie, but again and again the plot was repeated and this version brought little new to the table.

The film is a very slow burner, but at the end, it does not treat the audience with something new or satisfying, the premise of being haunted on Halloween itself is repetitive and overused, and what can roughly be called a twist in the choice of killers does not transcend what the eyes encounter. Unfortunately, you can still know, as planned, who will survive from the beginning of the film!

Some parts seemed illogical, that is, why is this group of children (or rather some of them) better equipped to fight than a bunch of bad guys who set up this complicated house full of traps and labyrinths. The evil ones really sucked in the fight.

Halfway, I got bored. The leads were nothing unusual. Around the corner, you knew what was going to happen.

The Exorcism Of Emily Rose (2005)

The Exorcism of Emily Rose is a very good movie dealing with a young woman in college who gets exorcized by several demons without any explanation. Language is not bad and has No sexual content. Not for people who get easily scared, the title of the movie alone is a warning. Safe for 15+ teens.

This is a very interesting film. Although it’s not terribly frightening, the film’s interplay of courtroom drama and exorcism scenes are intriguing. I found it to be less of your stereotypic demonic possession film (i.e. The Exorcist). It is more of a film that leaves you to consider the possibilities and question more modern perspectives that sometimes cannot be adequately explained by these means.

Finally, the film explains why sometimes God allows some horrible things to happen and some people to become martyrs.

Dead Silence (2007)

After a recent flood of very terrible horror movies in the last few years, it’s good to know that there are still some directors out there who can make something the way it’s supposed to be done.

The movie has everything you’d like to see in the best horror movie. Jumps, scares, suspense, decent storyline, some blood, but not too much. The end of this film is amazing, and the whole storyline of all the films you’ve thrown will keep you drawn in.

When I watched Saw, it was the only film that made me stand up from the couch, disbelieving what I saw. The brilliant writing, the great acting, the dynamite directing, all rolled up into what became my all-time favorite film. The film, on the other hand, was different. The writing was kind of “used.” I just kept guessing where all the scenes were going, and that’s not a bad thing.

Paranormal Activity (2007)

Paranormal Activity is a creepy horror thriller with just the right amount of suspense from writer/director Oren Peli, who is admirable in making this film that doesn’t rely on cheap scares and CGI effects to entertain the audience.

The suspense build-up was good, which doesn’t really pay off but isn’t a failure either. The sounds that came up for the demon or ghost terrorizing the two leads were very effective and well-paced throughout the film. It definitely helped to add to the creep factor, and the special effects of the $15,000 budget are equally impressive.

Talking about the Movie, A young couple suspects that their house is haunted by a malevolent entity. They set up video surveillance to capture evidence of what happens at night as they sleep. Their surveillance and home videos have been edited into this 99-minute feature film.” 

So if you’re in the mood for a thriller of suspenseful horror, then Paranormal Activity is a movie for you.

Scream (1996)

Making a brilliant, original horror film is pretty hard these days since almost everything has been said, and more than once.

Using this premise, director Wes Craven and screenwriter Kevin Williamson came up with Scream, whose cleverness highlights the fact that he knows and characterizes every single stereotype of the genre.

Scream With a wide range of teen slasher movies making rounds, it’s too easy to watch screaming and see just another school serial killer movie that’s just rolled off the factory production line.

What has made Scream so successful is that it has never been patronized and has shown a strong sense of ironic self-awareness. It took every horror cliché in the book and turned it upside down.

Scream is essential to any serious horror movie fans if only to witness the film that started it all. The idea of ‘movie in a movie’ was terrific and would be taken even further in the sequel.

The Exorcist (1973)

The Exorcist is one of the best horror movies to come out of the ’70s and deserves better than going down the top 250 slowly. It’s one of the most important films you’ve got to see in order to understand what a film really is, and this is more than a horror movie.

Many people complain that this film is too slow, but those are the kind of people who just like 80-minute splatter movies with characters that are so stupid and one-sided, you’re praying for the bad guy to kill them. This beast of drama is both beautiful and bold. It’s got CHARACTERS and not just LAMEBRAINS lined up for slaughter. It’s got class and purpose.

If you enjoy horror movies of any kind, and/or a good drama, this film is for you. Linda Blair’s head-spinning performance makes it even more horrible to see a little innocent child be possessed by a horrid demon.

Ellen Burstyn is offering another great performance, as a mother who’s going through shock and worried about what’s going on with her daughter. Altogether, this acting is very powerful, realistic, and leaves an overall better cinematic experience.

Hush (2016)

‘Hush’ is a lot like ‘The Strangers’ except that instead of plural strangers, it’s just one man, and instead of terrorizing a husband and a wife, it’s a deaf and mute recluse.

Here we have the story of a mute/deaf author who lives in the forest and you guessed it she falls foul of a masked killer.

Once the masked killer arrives, it begins as your typical cat-and-mouse game in every home invasion movie. The main character is deaf, however, allows a fresh spin on this game. And without giving away much, the film slowly begins to turn into a very tense, fun ride.

All I need to say is watch this movie to make this short and sweet. The movie is available on Netflix so stream it with your friends or by yourself, it’s up to you. It takes a very simple plot and makes it a very well thought out horror movie.

It Follows (2014)

In a long time, finally, a real horror! No more blood and corrupt crap. This is how really scary movies were made. Suspension and fear are created by great cinematography and music.

Inspired by the horrors of the ’70s and ’80s, this is a fascinating psychological horror film with a simple premise and a chilling concept. Cinematography is electrifying, every shot is beautiful, and the score is brilliant, with a very clear John Carpenter vibe.

Tension is raw, avoiding cheap jumping scares and relying on music. Its haunting atmosphere is incredibly efficient to keep you inches above your seat for most of the runtime.

David Robert Mitchell, the director, knows what he’s doing. He knows what scares you, and he executes it perfectly. With camera work that can only be described as “surreal,” we feel like we’re in a 100-minute nightmare.

This is how the best horror movies to watch are supposed to be made. You should be “followed” by fear, not “surprised.” It Follows is easily one of the decade’s most frightening horror films. I recommend it 100% of the time.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)

Tobe Hopper’s ‘The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’ is a landmark low budget horror movie that is considered a modern classic.

Let me begin by saying that there are a few precious movies that can actually scare the crap out of you, and this is one of them. The tension this film generates is overwhelming at times, and if you watch it with someone who has never seen it before, be sure to keep an eye on it. You’re likely to notice a look of disbelief on their unsuspecting face.

The best part of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre is that it doesn’t try to look gritty or bleak. The Texas summer skies are Technicolor blue, the grass is bright green, and the blood is red as it can be.

It’s presenting this world as it is. It’s so unnerving because of how normal and real it all looks. Most of the acting is quite naturalistic, as well as Marilyn Burns giving one of the best fear performances ever made on film.

This is the greatest film of all time. Tell me one thing is wrong with this film, other than the constant screaming at the end and the horror clichés.

Constant screaming makes it feel more real, and you can’t say anything about horror clichés because this film Made these clichés. Rarely, the beginning of a horror sub-genre is actually a good one, but this film is an outsider.

The Evil Dead (1981)

Sam Raimi’s feature-length debut “The Evil Dead” is truly one of the best horror movies to watch of all time and the beginning of a magnificently entertaining trilogy of hilarity and some real scares. Made on a budget of only $350,000, the film is surprisingly well done on a technical level.

“The Evil Dead” is about a group of young adults who pass by a cabin in the woods and discover the “Book of the Dead.” No prizes for guessing what happens next as each character is possessed and disposed of by an intriguing variety of methods.

The Evil Dead is a miracle. It’s made on a rock bottom budget yet it’s more frightening than any Hollywood movie that’s made for 20 million could ever hope to be.

If you want to truly experience a frightening experience, watch this film. It knows what it wants to say And it knows how to make you afraid. So be afraid because You won’t look at the forest the same again.

Hereditary (2018)

‘Hereditary’ is a supernatural tragedy horror film made of exceptional quality, of which there is no question. In fact, it’s done so well that I’d suggest what story you’ve chosen to tell almost wouldn’t matter, because writer/director Ari Aster clearly has the skills to make it work.

It is like two movies in one. Half of the time, it’s what I expected it to be, a horror movie. The other half, though it’s playing a lot like a drama. I would even suggest that it’s a better movie when it’s in drama mode than when it’s in horror mode.

Brilliant use of imagery and foreshadows. The casting is phenomenal. The film is a ritual, not a series of events. Tense and disturbing, you’re not going to see the end coming.

Great acting all around, great story, and deeply scary moments that will leave you feeling haunted.

The Shining (1980)

Sometimes all the best horror movies to watch needs is a good idea. But sometimes, rarely, a masterpiece of horror will come to us by the hand of Kubrick, with the adept, mysterious touch of a great artist to guide the vision, and we know what separates it from everything else.

As each year goes by, people realize even more just how brilliant this movie is. The Shining amuses the viewer in a way other horror movies can only try to. It’s a surreal feeling, hidden messages, and terrifying performances captivate you and leave you wondering long after the credits roll.

Kubrick has made a masterpiece, and the analysis of this work of art continues to find deeper and deeper meanings. Any horror fan, and any real movie fan, must see this gem.

This will always hold a place in my heart, and it will always be one of my favorite horrors of all time, turn off the lights, and enjoy the best horror movie to watch of this post.
