Pokémon is a world-famous anime series with more than 900 Pokémon and lots of human characters making It one of the most diverse anime series.
The Pokémon series is based on the journey of Ash Ketchum, a ten-year-old boy dreaming about being a Pokémon champion one day. Today we will talk about the top ten characters who helped this anime series to become world-famous. These characters are loved by fans and made the Pokémon series World famous.
And you will watch this series after reading about these characters to understand more how unique these characters are. From old to young, funny to serious, heroes or villains every character have their unique special characteristics and stories.

Professor Oak
Professor Oak’s character is seen in the series from episode one and the most seen Pokémon professor in the entire series. He has more than 100 Pokémon and his brother looks exactly like him and he is a professor too. He is the grandfather of Gary Oak who is one of the first rivals of ash.
Professor Oak has a Dragonite and lives in pallet town and resides next to ash’s home. Ash’s journey would have been incomplete without professor Oak because he gives him Pikachu and sometimes helps him with his Pokémon.
He invented Pokedex and currently researching Meltan a mythical Pokémon. His name is mentioned many times even when he hadn’t appeared in a season.
Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny
This pair of twins can be seen in the whole Pokémon series. There are a lot of Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny. These sisters are twins I mean there are more pairs of these sisters in every region. They can be identified by their hats and uniforms they always have a fairy type on their side as their assistants.
The first time nurse joy was seen in the series was when Ash brings his attack on Pikachu by a bunch of sparrows. And first officer Jenny was seen in the episode of the Squirtel squad.
They take care of regional Pokémons and do their regional duty, these two characters made an impact on the whole series by their presence.
Gary Oak
Ash’s first rival was Gary oak he defeated Ash which was Ash’s first loss due to which he got more motivated. Finally, ash defeats him in a tournament of the Johto league and this was one of Ash’s epic battles.
The battle between ash’s Charizard and Gary’s Blastoise is still an iconic scene for many fans. But, they were good friends before starting their journey.
Gary, later on, quits a Pokémon trainer and starts being a Pokémon researcher by following his grandfather’s footsteps. But most importantly all cheerleaders are his girlfriends that’s all matters in the end.
Paul
This guy is absolutely a villain. When Paul meets Ash for the first time, he beats ash so badly that it takes time for Ash to recover from that battle. As an absolute villain, this guy leaves his Pokémon Chimchar who was super cute and he thought this super cute small monkey is not good enough.
Ash and Paul won a dual battle too still the no-smile character of Paul didn’t change and kept disrespecting Ash whenever he gets a chance and really hates Ash than anyone else in this world.
He and Ash had the best battle in the whole series in the quarter-finals of the league and finally, ash defeats him with Paul’s Chimchar but now in an evolved form evolved into Infernape.
Cynthia
Cynthia is one of the most powerful characters in the series with lots of beautiful Pokémon in her arsenal. She loves ice cream and can read and understand the language of unknowns.
With so many beautiful Pokémons and Garchomp is her main Pokémon. She defeated Paul with ease only with her Garchomp. She is a gym leader with no actual Pokémon type.
She is the only female Pokémon champion in the whole series. She is known to be kind to others and Pokémon, she helped Ash a lot in his journey and was seen a lot too in Pokémon diamond and pearl season.
Serena
Serena is the only female who can come close to Misty. Not all companions of Ash were noteworthy but Serena was one of the memorable characters.
Her ideology was too different from others, she didn’t wanted to catch all Pokémons but have some and groomed them very well. She used to give accessories to her Pokémon before going to battle so they will look stylish.
She had only three Pokémons in the whole series she tried to catch Corsola but failed because her Pokémon Fennekin hates water. The main thing about her is that she has a crush on Ash and kissed him at the end of their journey leaving everyone shocked.
Brock
Everyone loves Brock why they should not, his journey with Ash made him a lovable character and we don’t think anyone had ever replaced him or even came close to him being a companion of Ash on his journey.
He has a sad backstory, his parents left him with numerous small-sized siblings to be taken care of that’s why he becomes a Gym leader at the age of 15.
He is training to be a Pokémon doctor and is in love with nurse Joy and Officer Jenny. His eyes have been closed in the whole series but opened only once. He is caring and helpful to other Pokémon and has a lot of knowledge about Pokémons.
Misty
This list is incomplete without misty. She was Ash’s companion in his early journey and still hasn’t forgiven him for breaking her bike into pieces. She is the longest female companion of Ash and is an all-time favorite of Pokémon fans.
She is the youngest among her sisters and she feels stupid because of her bratty sisters. She and her cute Pokémon companion Togepi is seen in many episodes and fans want misty to be seen more and more than any character in this anime series.
With anger issues and afraid of Bug-type Pokémon and her courage to win the battle was shown a character her but creators added her to the series to attract boys as eye candy and the saddest thing is that she will never return to the series again and we won’t see her again.
Team Rocket
We can’t even imagine this anime series without team Rocket. Everything about team rocket was perfect their introduction speech till getting thrown into the sky at the end of the episode everything was too good.
Despite being villains they were entertaining character and is fan favorites. Jesse, James and a speaking Meowth make a team. They fail to capture Pikachu and other Pokémon too, they have Pokémon which are lovable and irritated team Rocket a lot.
Their backstories are sad too. James and Jesse were rich kids but they didn’t like their life and moved from their life into the world of thieves. Similarly, Meowth wants to end up beside the big boss of Team Rocket.
Ash Ketchum
Why are we putting Ash on number 1 because he is liked and disliked by fans? He has earned 52 gym badges and defeated 4 legendary Pokémon and has captured 80 Pokémon in his journey.
Believe it or not but Ash has died in the series about three times and is believed to be immortal because of various reasons he never actually died.
He is the most seen character in the whole series and the journey revolves around him. He has a strong character and shows will power to win against opponents.
He lost every major tournament till he reached the Alola region and won the tournament. Due to his popularity, there is a national Ash Ketchum day on the 15th of September.
